THE THEORY BEHIND
BRAIN WAVE SYNCHRONIZATION |
WHAT IS BRAIN WAVE
SYNCHRONIZATION?
The human brain is always producing different
types of frequencies of changing electrical potential based on our
mental activity and state of consciousness. A Frequency is also
known as the number of repetitive waves that occur in a unit of
time. Brain frequencies are measured in Hertz or cycles per second
and can be calculated by an electroencephalograph (EEG) machine.
Brain waves are divided in 4 states, as follows:
BETA - Corresponds to 14 to
40 cycles per second and is associated with a fully awake and
conscious state of mind. That is the frequency in which we spend
most of our awaken time.
ALPHA - Corresponds to 8 to
13 cycles per second and is associated with relaxation,
concentration, daydreaming and a calm state of mind. We usually
experience this state when engaged in daydreaming, enjoying some
music or natural scenery, or in the first stages of falling asleep.
THETA - Corresponds to 4 to 7
cycles per second and is generally associated with deep
meditation, hypnosis, or altered states of consciousness. This state
can allow someone to have deeper insights, access her higher self,
enhance the body’s healing potential, and even multiply the power of
thought for creative purposes. This state can be accessed during
deep meditation, or during the intermediate stages of falling
asleep.
DELTA – Corresponds to 0 to
3.9 cycles per second and is generally associated with deep,
dreamless sleep, anesthesia, or unconsciousness. There are different
theories about what happens at this specific state of mind, and it
is reached during deep sleep or coma.
As you have seen, lower brainwaves have been associated with altered
states of mind and the experiences described by mystics,
meditators and high-performers.
Brain wave synchronization is the SHORTCUT to those
states that otherwise might take years for you to reach at will by
regular meditation or self-hypnosis practice alone.
Our CD tracks work under the principle of brain wave entrainment or
resonance. Entrainment is the process by which vibrations of one
object cause another object to oscillate or vibrate at the same
rates (they synchronize). As you have learned, our brains
operate within a specific range of frequencies, and in the presence
of brain wave synchronization sounds, the fluctuations in brain
wave activity begin to resonate in harmony with the auditory stimuli.
It's well known that rhythms and beats can have a direct effect
on our moods, be it lowering or increasing our brain wave rates.
While some types of sound can make us relax (classical/new age
music), others can make us very alert, or even irritated, aggressive
and tense (some heavy metal or rap music).
Chanting, drumming and musical instruments have been used through
history by different cultures to induce altered states of
consciousness. It all works under the principle of brain wave
synchronization.
Synchronization can be seen everywhere in nature. You may have heard
that if a couple of pendulum clocks are close to each other on a
wall, swinging at different rates, in time they will synchronize,
and all of them will be swinging in unison after a while.
If you play a chord in a musical instrument, another instrument
nearby will vibrate at that same frequency. People living together
for a long period of time will start to show similarities in habit
and behavior. Women sleeping in the same room tend to synchronize
their menstrual period over time, etc, etc.
That is what our CDs help you accomplish at a mental level. As you
listen to our sound tracks, your brain will start to synchronize its
cycle with the cycle of the “vibration wave” playing in the
background, bringing your brainwaves down to the Alpha or Theta
state within a few minutes of listening.
The average person may take up to half an hour to reach a state of
profound
relaxation (Alpha), and even longer to reach the deep meditative Theta
frequency. It may require years for someone to induce these states
at will, every time they try it. Meditation can be a time consuming
process and not everybody is fit for it. With brainwave
synchronizing sounds, you can reach deeper levels of consciousness in
an average of between 10 to 20
minutes after a few weeks of practice, and get back to it whenever
you wish.
Frequent practice of entering and remaining in these lower frequency
states will bring you to a peaceful, calm state of mind throughout
the day and will open the doors for higher experiences.
If your goal, however,
is just to relieve stress or improve performance, you can also
greatly benefit from the tracks on the Nirvana Sounds CD. You don't
have to be a Yoga practitioner or meditation enthusiast to
experience the profound effects of Brain Wave Synchronization.
