The scientifically proven Benefits of
Relaxation and Lower Brain wave activity
The Nirvana Sounds CD tracks were
designed to help induce lower frequency brain wave activity on its
user. Alpha and Theta waves are registered during meditation
practice or deep relaxation. Below you will learn about the benefits
linked with "meditational" states, but first lets talk about an
epidemic that is plaguing modern society; STRESS.
WHAT YOU
DON’T SEE MAY BE KILLING YOU
The so-called “fight or flight response” is a built-in defense
mechanism supposed to help us in case of imminent danger. However,
due to the pressures and demands of modern day life, many people
live in this “fear-protection-flight” mode constantly.
Modern life has
become a burden for most individuals, especially with the constant
threats of losing the status-quo due to global financial crisis,
lower employment opportunities, higher educational standards, and
the “rat race” to see who earns the most money, has the best car, or
looks better than the neighbor.
We are raised to
compete, to win, to earn other people’s respect, love or approval.
We spend more of our lives dwelling on past events or anxious about
the future than enjoying the present. No wonder that a growing part
of the population, especially in larger cities, is stressed out and
spends more money each day on a variety of drugs that range from
energy pills and “stimulants” to tranquilizers, anti-depressants and
illegal mind-altering substances. What we’re failing to see is
literally killing us.
Stress has
been linked to many leading causes of premature death, including
heart disease, cancer, lung diseases, alcoholism (which causes liver
damage and accidents), and suicide. It is supposed that up to 90% of
visits to Doctors may be linked to stress-related complaints or
disorders.
Stress causes
havoc in your glands and hormones. It also accelerates the
production of free-radicals, which damages the body and
actually ACCELERATE THE AGING PROCESS. The bottom line
is; stress can age you faster, produce physical diseases, and even
kill you!
How can we avoid
the devastating effects of stress, thus assuring a healthier body
and mind?
AN OLD
SOLUTION FOR A MODERN EPIDEMIC
There are many ways to cope with the stresses of daily life, among
those, one that has been calling the attention of researchers and
Doctors all over the world is MEDITATION.
Meditation has
been known and practiced for millennia; however, it was usually
associated with religious practices such as Buddhism and Hinduism.
When we mention meditation, the first thing that usually comes to
the mind of many people is a bearded man sitting on top of a remote
mountain somewhere in the Himalayas, or an Eastern sect.
Fortunately that
stereotype is being overcome and people from all walks of life
are experiencing the benefits of this simple yet powerful practice.
These benefits are so visible that even some professionals from the
medical community are engaging in the practice of meditation and/or
recommending it to patients as a complement to traditional
therapy.
-The
Special TIME MAGAZINE issue of
January 20, 2003 was dedicated to current
scientific research of Meditation. Study has shown how much
Meditation can positively influence physical health regardless of
the practitioner’s background. The study also reveals results
showing a close relationship between human mind and body, much
closer than what the general public have ever imagined.
-A Medical
College of Georgia pilot study using meditation to help lower
blood pressure in teens was so successful that the project has been
extended to five high schools and a middle school.
Dr. Vernon
Barnes, a physiologist at the Georgia Prevention Institute with over
30 years of experience in teaching and applying meditation
techniques, conducted a pilot study using meditation to help lower
blood pressure in teens. This experiment was so successful that
the project has been extended to five high schools and a middle
school.
The results, published in a 1999
edition of Psychosomatic Medicine, cited lower blood pressure
and other improvements among participants. The success spurred the
GPI to expand the project to include 156 high school students and 80
middle school students in Richmond County. The study is funded by
the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of
Health.
“Blood pressure
typically goes up with age, and the blood pressure of the control
group did go up,” Dr. Barnes said. “The blood pressure of the
meditation group went down.”
The students cited anecdotal
benefits such as better grades, improved interpersonal
relationships, more restful sleep and headache relief. They
mentioned the meditation techniques helped calm them during
stressful times and increased their energy levels overall.
The meditation study is one of
many initiatives within the Georgia Prevention Institute targeting
childhood risk factors for leading causes of death in the Southeast
including hypertension, coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

-An article
published by BBC News, Tuesday, 10
July, 2001 mentions meditation being successfully used to
improve the behavior and well-being of prison inmates in India, the
US and New Zealand.
Dr Kishore Chandiramani, a
lecturer in psychiatry based at the Queen Elizabeth Psychiatric
Hospital in Birmingham found that meditation helped improve inmates'
discipline and their willingness to co-operate with prison
authorities.
His work also showed that inmates
who studied the technique were less prone to depression, feelings
of hostility and helplessness and a sense of hopelessness. They
were also less likely to smoke.
Many other independent researches
around the globe have verified that relaxation and meditation can
release tension, fight fatigue and lower your blood pressure, among
other benefits.
Recent studies suggest that
meditation may balance the immune system to help the body resist
disease, or even accelerate the healing process. Meditation has
also been somewhat successful in helping relieve arthritis symptoms,
such as pain, anxiety, stress and depression. Meditation indeed
affects several body processes connected with well being and
relaxation.
"There is significant data that
meditation can enhance healing," says Saki Santorelli, executive
director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and
Society at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, Mass. "It
can improve the quality of your life and may well reduce your
medical and psychological symptoms."
Different meditation techniques
are being taught in many hospitals, clinics, and HMOs, and endorsed
by some prominent universities, such as Harvard and Stanford. It
is also quickly becoming an accepted complementary treatment for
various emotional and nervous problems, as well as some well-known
chronic conditions.
Betsy B. Singh, PhD, dean of
research at the Southern California University of Health Sciences in
Whittier and author of studies on meditation and fibromyalgia says:
"These skills can help people begin to control their arthritis
instead of having the disease control them."
Meditation has also been shown to
increase the body's production of melatonin, which is needed
for healthy sleep. And an astonishing study found that twice-daily TM
meditation in fact reduced fatty buildup in artery walls as
effectively as heart medications!
“There's evidence that meditation
moderates the immune response”, says Richard Kradin, MD, an
immunologist and psychiatrist at Harvard University. “Meditation may
affect the nervous and vascular systems, as well as the immune
system, which in turn would affect joint function and inflammation.”
Heart surgeon Mehmet Oz from
Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City uses
meditation to prepare his patients for heart transplant and also
finds it a valuable recovery tool.
Doctor Daniel Goleman, working
with Richard Davidson, director of the Laboratory for Affective
Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin, claims, “Meditation can
train the mind and reshape the brain.” Their studies of Tibetan
monks in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanners measured brain
activity and revealed that the brain can be reset, changing the
point at which a cerebral traffic jam, for example, leads to a state
of uncontrolled emotion.
All these hard to be ignored
benefits attributed to MEDITATION are believe to be linked to the
change in brain wave activity promoted by its constant practice.
The most common brain wave states measured in subjects during
meditation are Alpha and Theta.
Alpha levels (8Hz to 13Hz)
are associated with physical relaxation, which alleviate the effects
of stress and are crucial to your overall health and well-being.
Theta levels (4Hz to 7Hz) also reduces stress and are associated
with an even deeper state of relaxation and increased immune
functions.
Induced brain wave
synchronization with the help of binaural beats and other sound
effects has proven to take users to those same states experienced by
pro meditators. The Nirvana Sounds CD tracks were carefully
engineered to produce this beneficial “relaxation effect”.
The Nirvana Sounds
CD now comes with the TWO Brain Wave Synchronization tracks in ONE
single disk (originally sold separately), to help induce Alpha and
Theta frequencies.
Just listening to the tracks will
provide benefits such as an overall sense of wellbeing, peace,
relaxation (and all the health and rejuvenating benefits associated
